like chocolate boxes

Canvas003
progress is being made. j. still has to make 7 smaller frames for the accompanying pieces.  i'm getting better and better at stretching these little gems. i can tell from this picture that i'm going to have to redo the coral one.  it's quite exciting on my end- watching these become framed, they remind me of chocolate boxes!

let the stretchin' begin

Stretching_frames
these are the frames j. cranked out for me for my "smokin' embroidery" works. now i have the task of stretchin' these little beauties to hopefully get adored by the masses and sold in a flash! validation is always good.
Cupcakes
my special day was so nice. h. was a sweetie. he was a trooper at his class (he did cry though when we separated) and fixated on "h. crying" and not all the fun he had with his new friends and toys.  in my book we are making progress- big time. j. usually works late but came home early so we could have a proper family sit down meal, my favorite bolognaise, yummy! followed by "happy b-day to me" cupcakes and lights out. good times...

35 Happy Years

Deager_squirrel_2
today is my birthday or as h. likes to say "happy day". as each year comes and goes, birthdays are less important, i suspect this day will be like any other. some laundry, taking h. to an e.c.f.e. class (2nd one- he screamed his lungs out the first 10 minutes of the last class- strange kid anxiety "no kids, no kids...") so not looking forward to that again. i may  buy myself an orchid to put in my terrarium?

the above fun photo illustration is by artist darrell eager. it was featured in the oct. '07  of MN Monthly. happy day everyone!

more macros

jack russel study
Deerand_doe
what a difference a day makes and lighting. where two days ago i got orange hues with the tungsten setting, yesterday i got blues? weird, eh? i prefer the orange hues. j. just says just do it in photoshop- i have two reasons why. why putz around in photoshop, keep it pure and spur of the moment and (choke) i'm not that adept at photoshop...

macro mania studies

Deer_blue
while h. was playing cowboys on his table, i threw down a piece of felt, taped up a piece of paper bought in the $1 deals section at target and started taking quick macros of my schleich babies and a few cowboys.
Orange_deer
i experimented with different light settings (tungsten, halogen, cloudy) and love the above effects of the uber orange aura, the top one almost feels like a paint by number- but don't know what setting i had the camera on. i guess thats why it was a quick study. i can see the above two as two huge framed pics in our stairway (our stairway is wide and empty at the moment) i know what you are thinking - she's always talking about things on a huge scale. but i think thats what makes these little babies skip to my lou when they are something they were originally not, and that is, make 'em big baby!
Dog_blue
i'm going to reshoot the dog today as i think i will do a triptych of dogs for the babies room. i also have to fix the felt so it doesn't look like its ebbing and flowing.
Cowboys_yellow
and finally the cowboys just fighting between themselves.

nuns and cowboys

Nun_elledecor
i absolutely LOVE this painting by artist tony scherman in the oct. 07 issue of elle decor. so the ol' wheels start to turn and i'm thinking- OK how can i make a nun image work in my world. cowboys and a nun shoot out????? perhaps? however, my aunt is a nun and i'm catholic (not too practicing, mind you.) so i don't want to offend anyone. but isn't that what art does sometimes, walk the line??? so i've been searching for nun statues on ebay and i found a cool one but was not about to shell out more than $10! i'm cheap when i don't exactly know how i would use it. i love the below image i came across on sfgirlbybay of r. chunn's "the ink thief" so nonsensical but yet so funny too! (nov 06' archive). i guess that's where i'm going with my golden cowboys. juxtapose those bad boys against something unexpected...nuns???? we shall see.

paint-by-numbers barn

Barn_pbn
i was the winning bid of this gem off ebay! and i received it today! i'm going to hang it next to my "keep calm and carry on" poster i bought from sfgirlbybay a while back. the reds will compliment splendidly. fall is here- thank goodness! that means baby will be here in no time and of course things are not ready. by my calculations i have at least (god willing) another 6 weeks, medical calculations, 8 weeks- i don't think my body can stand that long, but we shall see. getting super anxious to meet the little guy!!!!!!!
happy weekend!

golden cowboys

Cowboy_one
here are my cowboys that have been running around my head for the past week or so. they are the mini plastic figurines that boys love to tinker with. since h. has been obsessed with cowboys, guns, & smoke lately, he may be a definate factor as to why i'm doing these pieces. i imagine them all dipped in gold with a bright blue background and finished as a huge wall print. these have the first coat of "champagne gold" applied and drying on newspaper. these obviously are not posed as evident in the bottom photo. this ol' cowboy has as much pizzazz as Britney's VMA performance. maybe he's just been shot? was that B's excuse? HA!!!

2 cute!

Squirrel_balling
the above and below paintings (yes, painting!)are by artist katrina balling. i found her and my other inspiration for today via wren handmade via tinlark gallery. at first i thought these were photos but nope, she painstakingly renders these thrift store animals in paint. these follow my love for "art that is not what it seems at first glance" genre. i am amazed at her ability to capture the gloss and light reflections. WISH I OWNED ONE!!!!maybe someday...
