sewing dolls
so i've been trying to perfect these little rag dolls. i've wanted to attempt dolls for some time but the thing always holding me back is the fact that i have never sewn clothing. i was inspired by emily's "making doll" segment (of Inside of a Black Apple) on martha stewart (how cool that she got to go on the show!!!) of course being me, i didn't follow her instructions and made my own pattern as i didn't want to directly copy emily's design. i wanted to sew a few with a "built in dress" to focus on getting the hair right. well i still haven't figured out the hair.
the first doll's hair (far left) was sewn separately and then hand stitched on, the 2nd dolls was sewn in when i sewed the face, the 3rd was again stitched before face and then hole on top of head was closed with the sewing on of the hair (i didn't like this result) i still don't know the best way to do the hair. the 4th doll (on the far right) is a true rag-doll (without built-in dress), who needs clothes. i fell in love with this wrap dress from flour clothing (below).
well, needless to say it is back to the drawing board for me as my attempt was quite icky but working out the kinks and hope to have truly precious little dolls to sell soon!
